Holiday Cheer Lands at Jack Barstow Municipal Airport

The spirit of the Christmas season is landing soon at the Jack Barstow Municipal Airport – including a possible visit from the man in red himself!

Beginning Saturday, November 28, families can visit the Barstow Airport terminal to pick up holiday treat bags and drop off letters to Santa Claus. Each treat bag will contain a candy cane, a wooden airplane ornament, and a simple craft that children can build at home. Families should call 989-492-0252 to reserve a treat bag as quantities are limited.

Visitors are asked to follow current COVID-19 prevention protocol while picking up their bags, including wearing masks, maintaining six (6) feet of social distance between other visitors, and limiting the number of guests in the terminal to six (6) people at a time. Visitors may also call the terminal office at 989-835-3231 upon arrival to have treat bags delivered to their vehicle.

In addition, Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1093 has received word from the North Pole that a special holiday guest may make a secret landing at Barstow Airport in December! Stay tuned to Midland Community Television (MCTV) on Charter channel 188 and U-verse channel 99 and the Facebook pages for the City of Midland (@CityofMidlandMI), MCTV (@MidlandCommunityTelevision), and EAA Chapter 1093 (@EAAChapter1093) for more information.

The Jack Barstow Municipal Airport is a 500-acre, two-runway general aviation airport operated by the City of Midland. The airport is located at 2800 Airport Road in Midland. For more information, please visit www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/airport.

National Writers Series: An Evening with Albert Woodfox

From 7:00PM to 8:00PM

Solitary is the extraordinary saga of a man who, despite spending four decades in solitary confinement for a crime of which he was innocent, inspired fellow prisoners, and now all of us, with his humanity. Arrested often as a teenager in New Orleans, inspired behind bars in his early twenties to join the Black Panther Party because of its social commitment and code of living, Albert Woodfox was serving a 50-year sentence in Angola prison in Louisiana for armed robbery when on April 17, 1972, a white guard was killed. Albert and another member of the Panthers were accused of the crime and immediately put in solitary confinement by the warden. Their trial was a sham of justice that gave them life sentences in solitary. Decades passed before Albert gained a lawyer of consequence; even so, sixteen more years and multiple appeals were needed before he was finally released in February 2016. Guest host to be announced.
